In 2018, J.D. Scholten waged one of the most important campaigns in America: ridding Iowa and Congress of Steve King. Scholten didn’t win, but in a district trump carried by 27 points in 2016, he surprised everyone by turning out Democrats in eye-popping numbers. He believes so deeply in the mission that he’s taking another shot at it in 2020. We spoke to J.D. not only about the race, but his unique background — including his days as a minor league baseball player. Possibly the most incredible revelations are J.D. describing the flavor of ice cream Ben & Jerry’s named after him, and the nickname Mark Hamill gave him.
